Have you heard of it before? Imposter syndrome? Have you ‘suffered’ from it? If I’m really honest, I don’t actually think that I have. I feel as though I’ve spent most of my life trying to prove myself more than anything else. However, there are plenty of people, especially women, who have experienced it throughout their lives. This article takes a revised look at the origins of imposter syndrome and brings it up-to-date by examining its effect on a wider, more diverse population than its original study group (i.e. people of colour). The authors Jodi-Ann Burey and Ruchika Tulshyan focus their results on the need to change the environment, rather than the people in it.
