The modelling industry has changed a lot within the past few years. Nowadays, it is quite common to find people with very different body types, it’s not just a profession for the ultra-thin. Another appreciated change is the diversity in ethnicities that now walk the runway. There is one model that stands out even further, mostly thanks to her tribal facial tattoos. Her name is Quannah Chasinghorse, and she is one of the few, if not the only, indigenous North Americans modelling for the biggest fashion houses. Her story is unique, as her upbringing is far from common for professional models, let alone most people. She grew up near the arctic circle, where hunting for your own survival was a way of life. Now she combines being a steward of the land, guided by her ancestral responsibility to it, with a high fashion modelling career, where she uses her platform to advocate for not only indigenous communities, but for the protection of the Earth. Let’s watch and discuss.
