One of my favourite movies of 2022 was Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. It’s a fantasy film that revolves around one family and their new-found powers – the mother’s powers in particular. It’s a “save the world” type of film, but with much finer nuances and a twist of family drama, and trauma. I thought it was original and fun, and thought-provoking, but I hadn’t thought of it as a film that could produce healing within a family, as is discussed in this podcast. In this podcast, the guests and host talk about how parents expect a “thank you” from their children, while their children expect a “sorry.” It seems as though the newest generation of filmmakers are leaning into this and searching for that apology. Have a listen. Watch the film. Let’s talk about it.
